Richebourg Grand Cru--Vintage 1971
2 bottles per lot
Richebourg Grand Cru--Vintage 1971 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Bottle numbers 2511 and 2512. Bin-soiled labels. Levels: one 4 cms and one 4.5 cms below the corks Tasting note: It always astonishes me to note how different these DRC wines can be despite the proximity of the vineyards and the same winemaking in the same cellars. At the opening Lebègue tasting in 1974, the 'roasted' Richebourg could not have been more of a contrast to the La Tâche. In 1977 it was soft and rounded, and at a horizontal tasting in 1983 it had deepened in colour (DRC wines have this extraordinary ability to take on colour with bottle age) - in fact, the darkest and most intense of the DRC '71s, with an expansive, rich, Pinot nose and flavour. More recently, a magnum: still richly coloured but showing some maturity.; glorious bouquet; sweet ingress, flavour of violets, great length. Last tasted Sept 1990. Then ****(*) Doubtless perfection now Michael Broadbent, Vintage Wine 2 bottles per lot
