AH 792/1390 AD): DIWAN SAFAVID IRAN, FIRST HALF 16TH CENTURY Poetry, Persian manuscript on paper, 144ff. plus 3 fly-leaves, each folio with 15ll. of black nasta'liq arranged in two columns with double gold intercolumnar rules, similarly outlined spaces left for titles, text panels outlined in gold and blue, catchwords, six miniatures painted over text probably in the later 16th century, one covering an original colophon, opening bifolio with gold and polychrome illumination surrounding 6ll. of text, later shamsa on the preceding folio probably added in Turkey, one further illuminated headpiece following the first bifolio, some repainting of miniatures, in later Turkish red morocco with gilt stamped medallion and borders Text panel 6 3/8 x 3 5/8in. (16 x 9.4cm.); folio 9 5/8 x 6in. (24.4 x 15.4cm.)
