Condition: title to vol. 1 spotted and soiled, some leaves washed, light spotting. first edition of "the earliest representations of the flora and fauna of Jamaica and neighbouring islands" (Hunt). Before travelling to the West Indies, Sloane was a notable botanist, doctor and collector in England. During his 15 month stay as the physician to the Governor of Jamaica, Sloan collected 800 specimens which Everhard Kickius drew and Vander Gucht and Savage engraved.
