Portrait frontispiece, 30 woodcut plates on India paper, mounted, reproduced from the original blocks cut for the 1866 edition, and 6 photogravure plates reproducing original drawings. Extra-illustrated with 10 original watercolour or pen, ink and watercolour designs signed with monogram 'WJN.' Contemporary green morocco gilt in Omar Khayyam style for 'G.P. Putnam's Sons' preserving original limp vellum, front cover with double panel and central lozenge filled with pointillé work, lower cover with double panel only, spine gilt with raised bands, gilt turn-ins, green silk doublures, gilt edges (spine faded, original vellum bowed), later morocco-backed green cloth case. NUMBER 8 OF 150 COPIES, EXTRA-ILLUSTRATED WITH 10 ORIGINAL WATERCOLOURS. These show houses and rural scenes associated with Tennyson, six with captions by the artist, including the poet's birthplace at Somersby Rectory, Lincolnshire, Clevedon Court, burial place of Arthur Hallam, and the Tennyson's home at Aldworth, Surrey. The designs may owe their inspiration to Helen Allingham's Homes and Haunts of Tennyson (1905). Seen above is a fine pen, ink and watercolour drawing which occurs beneath the closing lines of 'Godiva.'
