Title: The Peter Pan Portfolio...from "Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens", by J.M. Barrie Author: Rackham, Arthur Place: London Publisher: Hodder & Stoughton Date: [1912] Description: Limitation leaf + title-page + 12 proof-size color plates, 11 of which are window-mounted on card, with captioned guards. (Folio) 21¼x19, disbound with remains of original vellum present. Limited Edition, no. 593 of 500 copies numbered 101 to 600, signed by the publishers and by the engraver/printer. The 12 illustrations in this portfolio are considered to be Rackham's favorites from the 50 that appeared in the 1906 edition of Peter Pan in Kensington Gardens (where they were printed much smaller). This English edition is also somewhat larger than the American limited edition portfolio. Latimore and Haskell, pp. 39-40. Lot Amendments Condition: Disbound with original binding remnants only, text leaves tattered; one of the plates ("A Chyrsanthemum named Mamie...") is lacking its window-mount and is frayed at margin; all mounts neatly captioned in manuscript in extreme lower left corner; three mounts with a little mold-stain at lower edge, one mount with insect wear, one plate with mount opening and a short marginal tear still visible; still, the plates themselves in about fine condition and all still suitable for framing. Item number: 164736
