Beschreibung:

Two bifolia from a monumental Missal, in Latin, decorated manuscript on parchment [Germany, twelfth century] Two bifolia, recovered from a late medieval binding and hence trimmed at the outer edges (but usually with loss of only a few characters or blank borders), with remains of single columns, and up to 18 lines of a tall and elegant Romanesque script, with a strong st-ligature and the vestiges of a ct-ligature in a backward penstroke from the ‘t’ which does not connect with the ‘c’, rubrics and initials in red (sometimes oxidised to silver), larger initials in sweeping ornamental brushstrokes, fifteenth-century title in gutter of one bifolium: “Prima pas summe anthonini / anthoninus archiepiscopus” (most probably Antoninus Florentinus, either his Summa theologica moralis, which was printed in 1477, or his Summa confessionalis, which was printed in 1472), some stains and small areas with paper adhering, but overall in presentable condition and on heavy early parchment, each leaf approximately 210 by 175 mm.
