TWO-FISTED TALES No. 19 [2nd Issue] Author: Place: Publisher: Entertaining Comics Date: January-February, 1951 Description: VF- (7.5). Bright, clean, flat copy, no tears or blemishes, staples discolored. Cream to off-white pages. Kurtzman cover. Art by Kurtzman, Craig, Wood, Severin/Elder. Nervous rookie soldier busts caps in corpse; Kurtzman classic: "Jivaro Death" ("For God's sake, Slick, don't let these Jivaros take us alive! If they do, we'll wish for death a thousand times over!"). Shrunken head panels. "Harvey Kurtzman didn't like war. It was cruel, degrading, futile, and, in his opinion, not a subject to be glamorized for comic book readers. So in [his] run of Two-Fisted Tales and in his Frontline Combat books, he set out to write accurate stories to bring home the ugliness of warfare in its physical and emotional detail, as it was experienced over the centuries by the men who fought, and by the peoples upon whose lands those wars were fought." -E.B. Boatner, "Harvey Kurtzman and the Dogs of War" (Complete Two-Fisted Tales vol. 1. Russ Cochran: 1980). PBA Grading Guarantee: Any individual comic book lot (not group lots) graded by PBA is guaranteed to match CGC grading. If the buyer chooses to have the comic CGC certified and that certification is lower than PBA’s, the lot may be returned for a full refund of the sales price (hammer price plus buyer’s premium). See terms and conditions for details. Consignments Accepted for PBA's Next Comic Book Auction. Golden Age, Silver Age, Pre-Code, Original Art, Interesting Ephemera Sought.
