TWO-FISTED TALES No. 27 Author: Place: Publisher: Entertaining Comics Date: May-June, 1952 Description: Fine/VF (7.0). Nice clean copy, flat, bright, staples discolored. Off-white pages. Kurtzman cover. Art by Wood, Davis, Severin, Severin/Elder. Wally Wood artist bio. Includes "Custer's Last Stand," written by Kurtzman and illustrated by Wood from the perspective of one of Custer's men. The story offers a corrective view of Custer at a time when he was still largely portrayed as a hero in schoolbooks and movies: "He don't give a gol' durn for us! General Custer is just looking out for one feller... General Custer! Going to make us kill Indians so's he can get more glory... so's he can be President of the United States!" Kurtzman: "I was surprised when I researched the story of Custer, because I'd been brought up amongst these Budweiser paintings of Custer's Last Stand, those gorgeous things that used to be in all the barrooms. It shows a bunch of bloodthirsty Indians all over ripping up the scalps of guys on the ground, and in the center was this guy with guns, bam, bam. And it didn't happen that way at all. Custer was a fool." -The Complete Two-Fisted Tales, vol. 2 [Russ Cochran: 1980]. PBA Grading Guarantee: Any individual comic book lot (not group lots) graded by PBA is guaranteed to match CGC grading. If the buyer chooses to have the comic CGC certified and that certification is lower than PBA’s, the lot may be returned for a full refund of the sales price (hammer price plus buyer’s premium).
