VARIOUS FRENCH PHOTOGRAPHERS, including: (Gaspard-Félix Tournachon) Nadar (1820-1910); Etienne Carjat (1828-1906); and Pierre Petit (1832-after 1900) Portraits of French Celebrated Artists, Actors, Writers, Musicians, Scientists and Politicians 2 albums containing approximately 116 waxed? albumen prints from glass plate negatives. 1860s-70s. Each titled in ink, some with pencil annotations on the mount. 56 8 7/8 x 7in., some vignetted, mounted one-to-page; 60 4½ x 3¼in., a few trimmed to an oval, some vignetted, mounted 2-to-a-page, gilt edged. Oblong folio, one each burgundy and brown tooled leather boards and spine with embossed gilt decoration and name Elisa . Ex Libris Rudolf Schwabe paper label affixed to the moiré end papers. Accompanied by a printed brochure with 19 halftone reproductions from the album and published text by Rudolf Schwabe, along with a typewritten letter announcing a lecture by Hermann Kesser and 6 handwritten pages with titles and biographical information on each sitter in pencil, probably in Schwabe's hand.
