AN IMPORTANT EARLY LETTER FROM PRESIDENT WEIZMAN DEFINING THE "PRIMARY CONCERN" OF THE NEW JEWISH STATE. Writing to foreign minister Sharett in the early days of the Israeli state, Weizmann declares:
"It is certain, because the Jews of the State of Israel have more moral strength per square kilometer than every other state on earth. Not only is the fate of the Jews in the State obligated to be our primary concern, during a time of danger we knew how to stand on our own. Our concern must be devoted to those Jews who want to come to us, and the dictatorial state in which they reside will not permit them."
