Among these, of course, is the Austin Healey 3000 and, as with any acquisition, you should always buy the best you can. This example certainly falls into that category. Owned for just three and a half years, it was acquired as a project with a different registration mark. Once completed by the vender, a new V5C was applied for however, the DVLA in their infinite wisdom decided to re-register the car with a different age-related number plate, hence its current mark. Stripped right down to its chassis, this was then sandblasted and powdered-coated. The owner, a noted VSCC Riley racing driver and mechanic, then began to prepare the body to be re-united. This, again, was sandblasted and powder-coated to the correct factory blue in accordance with the British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate. £40,000 has been spent so far with, £8,000 on paint alone with Orchard Restorations, known specialists in this field. Interior trim, hood and tonneau were re-fabricated by a respected local trimmer and the wire wheels sandblasted and powder coated. A stainless-steel exhaust was then fitted and ‘premium’ chrome bumpers invested in. (That is to say; two layers of copper beneath the chromium plating) The mechanical restoration is, as you would expect, extensive with a complete overhaul of the engine, gearbox, drivetrain, brakes and suspension. Pains were taken to keep works to original factory specification, for example zinc-plated brake pipes and braided electrical cabling. There is extensive paperwork detailing the restoration and if you are looking for a better than factory-fresh Healey 3000, please do take the time to inspect this one.
