1961 Aston Martin DB4 Competition Coupé Registration no. not UK registered Chassis no. DB4/685/R• Offered without reserve • Unique specification • Shortened chassis • Aluminium body • 5.3-litre engineFootnotesStyled along the lines of the ultra-rare and exotic Aston Martin DB4 GT Zagato, this unique car is based on an original DB4, which retains its original chassis number and is recorded by the AMOC in their competition directory. Regrettably there is little information on file for the car, however a previous advert from Aston Workshop describes all of the following specification. The original chassis has been restored, shortened and modified for competition, including the addition of an integral welded-in roll cage. The new body is aluminium and has been constructed to enable larger wheels and tyres to be fitted, while the interior is fitted with Recaro race seats and Willans harnesses. Based on a new Fourways Engineering cylinder block, the engine is understood to displace 5.3 litres and incorporate Cosworth pistons, a steel crankshaft and con-rods, and an aluminium flywheel with AP triple-plate clutch. The twin-plug cylinder head is gas-flowed and ported, and fitted with race camshafts, titanium valves and titanium spring retainers. The engine is currently fitted with Weber Alpha fuel injection, a specially made exhaust system, and fully programmed ignition. Maximum power is understood from the previous advert to have been 420bhp, with 421lb/ft of torque at 4,250rpm. The cooling system features a large-capacity aluminium radiator and heavy-duty electric fan, and is ducted to exit through the bonnet. The gearbox is a Hewland STA while the rear axle is by Harrop. The braking system features AP Racing 4-pot callipers and large ventilated discs, has Aeroquip hoses throughout and is balance-bar adjustable. The suspension is Rose-jointed and is damped by Koni adjustable shock absorbers, while the wheels are Compomotive split-rims. The fuel system consists of an ATL bag tank, twin pumps and filters, and Aeroquip hoses throughout. When purchased by the current owner in 2007, the car was said to benefit from a recent complete engine rebuild and had completed one test session since. Exported and stored since acquisition, the car will undoubtedly require re-commissioning before use. Accompanying documentation consists of copies of the original guarantee form, 2007 purchase invoice, and copy old V5C registration document. Please note that if this vehicle is to remain in the UK, it will be subject to Import VAT at the reduced rate of 5% on the hammer price. It will also require a NOVA (Notification of Vehicle Arrival) and an additional fee of £250 (plus VAT) will be charged on the Invoice to prepare the NOVA. This vehicle will not be available for immediate collection after the sale and will only be released on completion of customs clearance. If you have any questions regarding customs clearance, please contact the Bonhams Motorcar Department or our recommended shippers. Please note that this vehicle is only offered with a photocopy of its old registration document, bidders should satisfy themselves as to registration requirements in their own jurisdiction. Please contact the department for further information.
