Conceived and developed as an open sportscar, the Jaguar E-Type debuted at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1961 in Coupé form. The car caused a sensation, spontaneous applause breaking out at the unveiling, with its instantly classic lines and a 140mph plus top speed. In October 1964 the 4.2 litre model was released. The more powerful engine, all-synchromesh gearbox and Lockheed brake servo formed part of the new specification and made for a much more user-friendly car. Apart from '4.2' badging, the car's external appearance was unchanged, but under the skin there were numerous detailed improvements, mainly to the electrical and cooling systems, and to the seating which was upgraded to a more comfortable touring style. Top speed remained unchanged at around 150mph, but the main performance gain from the larger engine was more torque at lower RPM. Delivered new to the UK, this original righthand drive matching numbers example is offered in very good order throughout having been maintained to a high standard for many years. The paintwork and upholstery present very well as does the engine bay. This E-Type formed part of a significant collection in Italy for many years and was treated to an extensive body restoration before being repatriated to the UK. In more recent times and in the current vendors ownership, this E-Type has been maintained to a very high standard with works including an upgraded radiator and cooling system, an overhaul to the carburettors, a new fuel pump and a DAB radio with iPhone connectivity. Also fitted were upgraded BCC front brakes, a new steering rack and a 123 ignition system. Offered with a sizeable history file including many sundry invoices dating back to the 1980s, a UK V5C registration document and bills for the recent maintenance work, this wonderful example is reported to be in good running and driving condition. E-Type coupés make wonderful road cars and are fantastic event cars. This particular example is in very good order and would be a great car for weekend shows or drivers events.
