A DUTCH MAHOGANY MUSICAL LONGCASE CLOCK ABRAHAM VAN DER NAATEN, AMSTERDAM. MID 18TH CENTURY The case of typical form, the hood with a door to each side and surmounted by giltwood figural finials, foliate carved mouldings around the hood and trunkdoor, hood and trunkdoor with carved clasps depicting a parrot on a branch, the dial with polychrome painted rolling moonphase to the arch, engraved silvered selection ring above indicating the twelve tunes, the brass dial with painted musical figures, silvered subsidiary rings for slaan/nietslaan and speelen/niet speelen, silvered arcaded chapter ring, the matted and engraved centre with silvered seconds ring with date aperture, sectors for month and day of week, centred by an engraved signature cartouche inscribed ABR. VAN DER NAATEN/AMSTELDAM , painted steel hands, three train eight-day movement with six pillars, anchor escapement, trip repeat for the strike and musical movement, Dutch strike on two bells, playing twelve tunes on fifteen bells with twenty-nine hammers via 20.5 cm. long pinned brass barrel positioned to the top of the movement; three brass weights; pendulum, crank key; door key 300 cm. high
