A George III brass mounted ebonised table clock Thomas Hunter junior, London, circa 1760 The five pillar twin fusee bell striking movement with verge escapement, trip hour repeat and symmetrical foliate scroll engraved backplate, the unusual 7 inch brass serpentine-outline arched dial with calendar aperture and shaped recessed silvered plate signed Tho's Hunter, Junior to the matted centre within applied silvered Roman numeral chapter ring with Arabic five minutes to outer track and scroll-pierced steel hands, the angles with unusual rococo scroll cast spandrels beneath STRIKE/SILENT selection dial flanked by conforming mounts to arch, the inverted bell-top case with brass carrying handle above rococo scroll cast and chased mount to superstructure and pineapple finials, the front door with inset brass fillet moulding to glazed dial aperture and scroll cast frets to upper quadrants, the sides with circular over concave-topped rectangular glazed apertures, the rear with break-arch window to back door, on cavetto moulded shallow skirt with moulded squab feet, 48cm (19ins) high excluding handle. Thomas Hunter junior is recorded in Baillie, G.H. Watchmakers & Clockmakers of the World as apprenticed 1734 gaining his freedom in 1742, he worked from New Broad Street Buildings, was appointed Warden in 1762 then served as Master in 1765, he died in 1785. We do not indicate in the catalogue description whether winding or case keys are present with any specific clock. As many clocks are consigned without keys please check with the department to establish whether they are present or not prior to bidding. Condition: due to the mechanical nature of clocks and the fact that most are of great age we cannot offer any guarantee as to whether they are in working order or free from major faults or restoration.
