ACKERMANN, Rudolph (publisher). Microcosm of London. London: T. Bensley for R. Ackermann, [1808-1810]. 3 volumes, 4° (336 x 272mm). Wood-engraved titles, engraved dedications, 104 hand-coloured aquatint plates, watermarked J. Whatman 1807-08, by Buck, Stadler and others after Thomas Rowlandson and Pugin. (Occasional light spotting to plates and offsetting onto text, some browning of text.) Contemporary purple straight-grained morocco, covers elaborately tooled in gilt and blind, spines in five compartments with false raised bands, lettered in two, the others with repeat overall decoration, gilt edges (extremities slightly scuffed, joints a trifle weak). Provenance : unidentified armorial bookplate; John Hely-Hutchinson (book-label, sale Sotheby's 12 March 1956 lot 4); René Jessen Christensen (bookplate). FIRST EDITION, AN EARLY ISSUE.
