En 1966, Alain Jacquet décide de donner sa propre interprétation d'un tableau de Thomas Eakins "Swimming Hole", réalisé entre 1884 et 1886. Ce tableau a été peint en utilisant les photos faites de ses étudiants en art, alors qu'ils se baignaient nus. Pour Alain Jacquet il s'agit de la première version de ses "Déjeuners sur l'herbe". Alain Jacquet was one of the new realistic artists working from classical paintings and cuttings from advertisements and magazines. His work during the 1960's is near to that of certain of his contemporaries such as Gianni Bertini Pol Bury Mimmo Rotella or Pierre Restany. These artists also transferred images mechanically, as with serigraphy, onto different supports (hessian, hardboard, Plexiglas, wood). During this work by multiplying and enlarging the image, Alain Jacquet privileged the aspect pointillist of the screen and of diverting the sense. His work was exhibited in 1963 in the Fraser Gallery in London and in 1964 in the Lolas Gallery of New York. In 1966, Alain Jacquet decided to do his own interpretation of Thomas Eakins work "Swimming Hole", painted between 1884 and 1886. This picture was made by using photos of his art students bathing nude. For Alain Jacquet it became the first version of his "Déjeuners sur l'herbe" and one of his favourite works.
