AN IMPORTANT GERMAN SILVER-GILT MOUNTED IVORY TANKARD by Adolf Gaap (Seling, 1653b), Augsburg, 1665-1670, the ivory carving attributed to Georg Petel or Bernhard Strauss On oval base repousse and chased with fruit and foliage, the ivory body finely carved with a scene depicting the judgement of Pâris with chased foliage bands above, the hinged domed cover similarly chased, the ivory finial shaped as Diana and her dog, with bifurcated scroll thumbpiece, the scroll handle cast with a winged caryatid - 28.5 cm high
