Original green embossed cloth, printed paper label on the front cover (spine a bit faded, label slightly browned); modern quarter red morocco gilt slipcase. Provenance : Susan Fenimore Cooper (signature); Fenimore Cooper (signature). FIRST EDITION. A FINE FAMILY ASSOCIATION COPY of Cooper's brief history of the town first established by his father in 1786, signed by the author's daughter "Susan Fenimore Cooper" on the recto of the first blank, and by an early descendant "Fenimore Cooper" on the title-page.
