Small 4°, "mechanique" has a separate title and pagination, woodcut vignette on titles, woodcut diagrams and illustrations, 8 full-page (some leaves lightly browned, a few spots), modern half morocco. This work presented "an outline of Cartesian scientific method, summed up in the famous Four Rules presented in book 2, together with scientific treatises intended to illustrate the method's range" (Norman 621 on the 1637 edition). DESCARTES, Réné. Geometria , Amsterdam: Ludwig & Daniel Elzevier, 1659-61. 2 parts in 2 volumes, small 4°, half titles, portrait on verso in vol. I, first title in red and black, woodcut diagrams, a few full-page, woodcut initials (unobtrusive marginal waterstaining at end of vol. I, a few spots), not-uniformly bound in early calf (rebacked); ownership inscription of Tho. Willoughby on verso of half title in vol. II. With a later edition of Descartes' La Géometrie (Paris, 1886). (4)
