Doyle (Sir Arthur Conan).- 4 photographs of Conan Doyle, each 97 x 74mm. or smaller, laid-down on card with 41 other photographs, all captioned in ink below by a contemporary hand, [c.1901]. ⁂ The photographs depict Conan Doyle, in cricket whites, at a cricket match between the 'Incogniti' and Cheltenham College at Cheltenham on 6th & 7th June, 1901. It was during this tour that Doyle was writing The Hound of the Baskervilles. The Incogniti cricket club was formed in 1861 and toured internationally as well as in the UK, Doyle was a prominent member for a number of years, the captain of the team, Trevor Philips, is also pictured. ⁂ Provenance: The Fawkes family of Cheltenham.
