First edition of the plate atlas (only) for Esquirol's classic clinical work on mental illness. Later plain paper wrappers. 8 x 5 1/4 inches (20.5 x 12.5 cm); title, plate list, and 27 fine engraved plates by Tardieu (including the folding plan of Charenton). Minor foxing, generally clean. Frequently lacking from sets of the work, this plate atlas was considered by Norman to be "the first important iconography of the insane, and has some of the most stark but striking images of the insane ever published."
