Numerous plates and illustrations, including 9 full-page original watercolours by various artists and 18 original watercolours in the margins of the final story by Pierre Vidal (one dated 1912). Red morocco gilt, covers with shaped onlaid green morocco border, spine similarly onlaid, gilt turn-ins, figured cloth liners and doublures, original wrappers bound-in, g.e., slip-case, by Henri NOULHAC (dated 1914). Limited edition. Anatole FRANCE. Mémoires d'un Volontaire. Paris: 1902. 8° in 4s (242 x 155mm). Title vignette and numerous plates and illustrations after Adrien Moreau each present in 3 states, including one original watercolour. Dark blue morocco gilt, upper cover with light blue morocco onlays, spine and lower cover gilt, gilt turn-ins and brown morocco liners, brocade doublures, original wrappers bound-in, g.e., slip-case, by René KIEFFER (spine very slightly discoloured). Edition limited to 400 copies, this number 15 of 20 copies on grand vélin d'arches. -- And another, in a fine binding by Charles MEUNIER (dated 1911). (3)
