ORTELIUS (Abraham) : THEATRUM ORBIS TERRARUM, Antwerp, in Officina Plantiniana, 1612 3 parts in one vol., including Parergon and Nomenclator Ptolemaicus, large folio (480 x 315mm), Latin text, engraved title with arms of Philip of Spain on verso, engraved epitaph to Ortelius and portrait, engraved title to Parergon, engraved world map vignette to title of the Nomenclator, 166 double-page engraved maps and plates (128 in the Theatrum,38 in the Parergon), (slightly discoloured throughout, occasional staining to outer margins,title detached, 9 maps cleanly torn along centre fold, outer margins of 11 leaves of the Nomenclator affected by worm), contemporary limp vellum (stained, lacking ties, inner hinges cracked), title with early ownership inscription of Ramon Castello Koeman III Ort 41, the last and most complete of the Latin editions of the Theatrum, the plates being purchased by Plantin from the widow of Jan Battista Vrients, who had obtained the plates from the sale of Ortelius's stock in 1600.
