Probably Russia 18th/19th C. Egg tempera over chalk ground on panel, with remains of old silver plating. Saint Nicholas with omophorion and mitre, holding the Gospel in his left hand, blessing with his right, flanked by Christ in clipeus. Considerable signs of age, paint loss.

Saint Nicholas is one of the most venerated saints in the Orthodox Church, as he assists the faithful in cases of illness and is held responsible for the often miraculous healing of the sick.
