HOOGHE, Romein de (1645-1708). Carte Maritime depuis la Riviere der Bourdeaux jusques a St. Sebastien . Amsterdam: Pieter Mortier, 1693. Superb copy of Romein de Hooghe's regional chart of western France, extending from the mouth of the Garonne to the Spanish port of St. Sebastien. The arms of the dedicatee, Nicolas Witsen, surmount the three inset views which are surrounded by a rococo frame. Koeman IV, M.Mor 5 E, chart 5. Single-sheet engraved map, richly coloured by a contemporary hand and heightened with gold, 3 inset views of Bordeaux, Bayonne and Royan, rhumb lines in sea meeting at compass rose, decorative small ships, urban areas painted in red with gold points to their centres, 600 x 482mm (plate mark), 621 x 508mm (sheet).
