London: printed by Miles Flescher, for Christopher Wilkinson, 1688. 2 parts in one, 2 o (332 x 200 mm). Title in red and black. Portrait frontispiece of the translator, 10 engraved plates. Contemporary calf, crowned P added later to the sides (rebacked). Provenance : Duke of Portland (bookplate, binding); Alberto Parreno (bookplate). FIRST ENGLISH EDITION, important for first bringing to the English-speaking world, this great classic written by the first native historian of the New World. Garcia Lasso de la Vega was also known as El Inca ; his work deals with the dynasty of twelve Inca kings who created and governed the vast empire extending from the present-day Colombia to Argentina, and south-central Chile. This is the rubricated issue printed in red and black with the Tonson imprint. Other issues include titles printed in black, or without rubrication. No priority has been established.
