Green morocco elaborately gilt by ZAEHNSDORF covers with all-over design of flowers and leafy sprays, large central panels with an alternating plain or pointillé background, spine similarly gilt, doublures of brown morocco, large gilt medallion in center, surrounded by an all over design of tiny devices and dots, brown morocco linings, top edge gilt and gauffered, other uncut (spine evenly faded to brown). Provenance : purchased from Harry A. Levinson, n.d. Brooks edition, with a new title page, using the text of the first edition, second issue, with the fly-title correctly bound as d1, and the preface ending on p. xxi "The original quires and cancel leaves of the work fell into the hands of John Brooks who issued them, in 1829, with a new title." (Granniss/Grolier Shelley 46).
