12 ga., 20" barrel, S/N E 955920. This weapon is of the later takedown configuration. Left side of receiver is marked with large US and ordnance bomb and there is a Winchester proof located at the left top of the receiver. The barrel has an ordnance bomb and a Winchester proof at the top and is marked 2 3/4 cham over cyl on left side. The under side of the barrel has the year date 42. The American walnut pistol grip stock that has G.H.D. in a rectangle over an ordnance wheel. The barrel and all other metal parts appear to have most of the original blue. Includes a model 1905 leather sling marked J.S Co., and a model 1917 Winchester contract bayonet dated 1917 and a leather scabbard marked G&K and dated 1917. Total of about 44,000 takedown model 1897s were produced by Winchester based on known serial numbers. Condition: Fine with a fine bore. Retains most of the original blued finish. Mechanically sound.
