1985 Mercedes-Benz 380 SL Roadster Lot Number 321 Registration C277 NMB Chassis Number WDB1070452A033037 Engine Number 11696222041842 Odometer reading 67,700 miles Estimate £16,000 - £19,000 Result Sold - £26,880 Print details Send this to a friend 6 more images Introduced early in 1971, this impressive two-seater sports car replaced the 280 SL. The body and chassis of the 3rd generation SL were considerably heavier and longer than its predecessor but still showed a slight resemblance to them. The front and rear axles were similar to those of the 200-250 models, with independent wheel suspension using double wishbones and anti-dive control at the front and a diagonal swing axle at the rear; four-speed automatic transmission was available as an option. The 3.8 litre, V8 engine underwent slight modifications to those being used on other models and the gear shift lever was placed on the floor in the centre of the car. The standard transmission provided a top speed of 130mph and a very respectable 0-62mph in 8.8 seconds. As with the previous generation SL's, the vehicle came as an open Roadster with removable hard top roof. The R107 body shape went on to become one of the longest running styles from Mercedes-Benz, remaining in production until 1989 with some 13 variants during that period. This attractive V8 example of the iconic R107 SL Mercedes-Benz is presented in metallic turquoise with contrasting trim, a new soft-top and matching hard-top. Owned by the current vendor for over 10 years, it has covered just 5,000 miles in that time. Clearly a cherished model and complimented by the original first aid kit still in place, the history file warrants the mileage and it is coupled with an original service booklet comprehensively stamped 18 times, nine from Mercedes-Benz main agents and the last service at 66,973 miles. The originality of this rust-free example is evident upon inspection as is the fantastic condition. An MoT test certificate is also present until June 2018, importantly with no advisories. This is a fabulous example of the much sought after SL.
