A warm letter responding to Thrale's invitation to a party: "…I should like extremely to be of your to-morrow party, but dare not promise myself that happiness yet; My Father & Mother are still at Chesington, & I will not torment you with reciting the pros & cons that diable me at present from settling whether or not I can wait upon you even to Dinner: but if I have power, I will certainly & joyfully make use of it…"
