London: C. and J. Ollier, 1818. 8vo (210 x 130 mm). Errata leaf and fly-title for "The Revolt of Islam", without blank leaf b2 as normal, without final blank S8. Later half maroon morocco by H. Gale, gilt title to green morocco lettering piece, marbled boards. Condition: corner of P6 torn without loss to text, neat repair to errata leaf, some slight soiling; extremities slightly rubbed. Provenance: A.G. Dew-Smith, sale Sotheby’s London, 1878; William Christie-Miller (collation note and shelf-mark), Britwell Court sale, Sotheby's London, 29 March 1971, lot 412; H. Bradley Martin sale Sotheby's New York, 1 May 1990, lot 3188. first edition with this title (of the expurgated text of Laon and Cynthia ), first issue. One of the rare copies dated 1817 in the imprint. The 26 cancel leaves of revised passages watermarked 1817. Grannis 43, 44; Wise, Ashley Library V., p.67; Tinker 1895.
