PALLADIO, Andrea. I quattro libri dell' architettura. Venice: Domenico de' Franceschi, 1570 [but Venice: Pasquali, 1771-1780?]. 2 o (342 x 249 mm). Title and three section titles, each within engraved architectural border, printer's device on colophon. Numerous engraved illustrations some full or double-page. (Minor dampstaining to lower right corner of last book.) Contemporary vellum (some minor staining). Provenance : Richard Biddulph Martin (library label); James Grote Vanderpool (ownership inscription). Counterfeit edition, based on the first edition of 1570, with copperplate copies of the original woodcuts. This edition was published presumably by Pasquali through the bequest of Joseph Smith (1682-1770), British Consul at Venice. Fowler 232.
