Rara terza edizione magnificamente figurata.Uno dei più importanti libri di architettura. Le illustrazioni impresse in xilografia, di Giovanni e Cristoforo Chrieger Cristoforo Coriolano e altri, sono tratte dai disegni originali di Andrea Palladio e sono le stesse della prima edizione del 1570. Il primo libro raccoglie i fondamenti della “buona architettura” basata su Vitruvio e affronta il tema dei materiali da costruzione. Il secondo illustra molte case private edificate all’epoca, specialmente dall’autore, nonché le antiche abitazioni greche e romane. Il terzo tratta dell’edificazione delle città in maniera regolare e coordinata, con riferimenti ai modelli antichi. Il quarto è dedicato ai templi pagani. Il nucleo centrale del Trattato del Palladio è il recupero dell’antichità per trasmettere all’architettura moderna i caratteri di grazia, bellezza ed equilibrio di quella antica. Il suo libro esercitò un’enorme influenza sull’architettura europea almeno sino alla fine del settecento, quando divenne il testo di riferimento per gli architetti neoclassici. Fowler 214.
