SECOND QUARTER OF THE 18 T H CENTURY
A BOHEMIAN FLINTLOCK HOLSTER PISTOL BY JOHANN PAUL BREITENFELDER OF CARLSBAD Second quarter of the 18 t h Century With sighted barrel formed in two stages with turned girdle between, the breech section engraved with a line of beadwork and signed 'Joh Pavl BreidenFelter', engraved tang, bevelled lock cut with a mounted huntsman shooting a stag and hind, partly against a blackened recessed ground, figured walnut full stock finely carved with elaborate designs of rococo scrollwork in low relief over the length of the butt and also about both the trigger-guard and ramrod-pipe, the butt additionally decorated with a gilt-brass scrollwork plaque cast in low relief and overlaid about the barrel tang, gilt-brass mounts decorated in low relief in the Carlsbad fashion, the side-plate with a boar hunt in wooded landscape, eagle-head pommel cast in the round and fitted with red-painted tongue, horn fore-end cap, horn-tipped ramrod, and the mounts retaining most of their original gilding. 16½ i n (41.9cm)
